At Coqui Charities, our commitment to the arts in Puerto Rico drives us to create impactful masterclasses that reach communities and children. Our mission is to enable resourceful individuals to share their experiences and knowledge with students in the same field of study.
Our inaugural masterclass featured Miguel J. Rivera Ramírez, principal timpani of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra (OSPR), held at the Escuela Libre de Música in Humacao. Through his presentation, Rivera Ramírez shared percussion techniques and his musical journey with the students.
It’s worth noting that Miguel is an alumnus of the Escuela Libre de Música in Humacao. He is the son of Humacao musicians Lesbia Ramírez and José “Tito pino” Rivera Mercado, who also taught at the institution. During the masterclass, Miguel had the opportunity to reconnect with Martín López, his former teacher at the school.
**About Miguel Rivera Ramírez:** Miguel earned his bachelor’s degree in percussion from the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico (CMPR), from 2007 to 2010 studied at the School of Music, University of Kansas (KU). He performs with OSPR since 2010, and was appointed principal timpani in 2023.

Coqui Charities is proud to support the third edition of the Puerto Rico Band Conducting Seminar organized by Dr. Nitai Pons and the Ernesto Ramos Antonini Fine Arts School in Yauco (EEBBA ERA). This year we welcome Dr. Giovanni Santos – Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at La Sierra University in California – as a guest clinician, composer, and band director.
Testimonial
The third edition of the Band Conducting Seminar took place on April 18 at the Teatro Ideal inYauco. There 47 band teachers participated in workshops and clinics given by Dr.Giovanni Santos, Director of Bands at La Sierra Universiry in California.
This edition of the Seminar was possible thanks to the large financial contribution made by Coquí Charities, which covered Dr. Santos’ hotel expenses, the rent of Teatro Ideal, and the creation of the promotional graphic design for the social media.
There is no doubt that without the help and commitment of Coquí Charities, initiatives such as the Band Cunducting Seminar would be almost impossible to carry out.”
